The American Red Cross Capital Area Regional Chapter rang in 2011 by providing food, shelter, comfort and hope to families across central and eastern Missouri devastated by the tornados that touched down New Year’s Eve.
Volunteers from Mexico, Columbia, Jefferson City and the affected counties worked with families in Phelps, Pulaski and Dent counties over the weekend, making sure all of their immediate and emergency needs were met. Local volunteers and staff continue to work with family’s returning to Ft Leonard Wood after the holidays to find homes damaged and destroyed. Over the weekend, 203 meals were served from both mobile and fixed feeding sites. Sadly, four fatalities occurred.
All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, thanks to generous public support. You can provide a hot meal by making a $15 donation or provide personal care kits for 20 people for $100.
